Funeral Pre-Payment Plans

We are proud to be able to offer Funeral Pre-Payment Plans from Co-operative Funeralcare, the largest Funeral Director in the UK with over 600 branches nationwide.

The Co-operative Group is the largest consumer co-operative business in the world, with a well-known and respected funeral service. Co-operative Funeralcare conducts over 80,000 funerals each year and sells over 15,000 Funeral Pre-Payment Plans.

They are one of only two national funeral providers who conduct all the funerals of the plans they sell (as opposed to sub-contracting the funeral). This ensures that they control every aspect of the funeral and guarantee to meet the needs of clients.

The Funeral Pre-Payment Plan can help reduce the emotional and financial burdens from relatives and friends. It is a simple way of providing for the cost of your funeral in advance, and at the same time making sure your specific wishes are observed in every detail. There are no hidden extras, no medical is required and there is no upper age limit.

Why purchase a Funeral Pre-Payment Plan from Co-operative Funeralcare?

  • Peace of mind - from knowing all the arrangements are made and relatives will not be faced with making choices at a difficult time

  • Choice - of the plan that best meets your needs based on three cremation plans and a bespoke option for burials

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can my arrangements be altered or cancelled?
Yes, your Funeral Pre-Payment Plan may be changed or cancelled only by you, with Co-operative Funeralcare's consent, at any time. For cancellations more than 14 days after taking out the Plan there is a £90 cancellation fee; except for this all payments will be refunded. It may be necessary to charge for any changes.

  • Will there be anything extra to pay at the time of the funeral?
Normally, for a Set Cremation Plan, there will be nothing further to pay. However, in certain circumstances, e.g. changes in the law, additional charges may arise.

  • Who provides the funeral?
The funeral will be provided by the Co-operative Group, the UK's largest Funeral Director, or a reputable agent approved by the Co-operative Group.

  • What happens when death occurs?
Your next of kin or representative should contact the Co-operative Funeralcare Service Centre at the address printed on your Certificate. • Is the price I have paid guaranteed against inflation?
Yes, providing your Set Cremation Plan has not changed, the costs of the funeral will not be affected by inflation. In the case of Burial or Cremation under a Tailor-made Plan,
Co-operative Funeralcare guarantee to cover an increase in the cost of Disbursements up to 40%. Any excess would become payable by you or your representatives.

  • What steps will be taken to ensure delivery of the funeral?
In order that Co-operative Funeralcare may deliver their obligations to you, all Funeral Plan monies paid to Co-operative Funeralcare are held securely by CIS (Co-operative Insurance Society Ltd).

  • What happens if death occurs before I have paid for my Selected Plan?
The outstanding monies can be paid as a lump sum at the time of arranging the funeral.

  • What happens if death occurs abroad?
The Co-operative Funeralcare Funeral Pre-Payment Plan only covers the costs of a funeral in the UK. It does not cover the costs associated with repatriating the deceased. However this can be arranged separately with Co-operative Funeralcare's repatriation specialists.

  • When will my certificate be issued?
Certificates and welcome packs are sent out when full payment of your selected plan is made.

Applying for a Co-operative Funeralcare Funeral Pre-Payment Plan

You can apply for a Plan by:

  1. Printing out the Application form and completing it as below:

  • Ensure that you have opened and read the Terms & Conditions (pdf)

  • Open the Application Form (pdf) and print it

  • Complete the Application Form, taking note of the following:

  • Section 1 - include your personal details, ensuring that the date of birth is recorded

  • Section 2 - must be completed if the applicant is taking out a plan for someone else's benefit (a 'nominee')

  • Section 3 - indicate the plan selected and cost

  • Section 4 - Method of Payment - indicate if payment is by cheque, credit or debit card and ensure that you sign this section if paying by credit or debit card

  • Section 5 - you may make special requests regarding your funeral service. You may specify in this section which Co-operative Funeralcare funeral home you would prefer to conduct the service. However, Funeralcare reserve the right to impose a mileage charge if your choice in this respect results in the deceased having to be transported more than 20 miles

  • Declaration - you must read the product terms and conditions and sign to confirm your acceptance of these

  • Finally - post the completed form to the following address:
