Wills
On-Line / Wills by Post
Prime
Wills do not offer Wills or other legal documents on-line
or by post.
Why
not?
Simply
because we do not recommend that you purchase such
products without some sort of discussion with a Will
adviser.
A
Will is an individual, personal document to suit your
particular circumstances, and needs to be written with
skill and precision in order to ensure that it does what
you want, how you want it.
To
do this adequately requires a face-to-face discussion to
consider your wishes and circumstances and how they can be
incorporated clearly in your Will, whilst minimising
administration, potential disputes and liability for
taxation.
When
making a Will, even questions need to be clearly defined
and understood before they are answered.
For example:
-
If
you were asked on-line "how many children
do you have?", would you know whether to
include natural children, step-children,
illegitimate children, foster children or
adopted children?
-
If
you wanted to exclude someone from your Will who
may have a possible claim on your estate, would
you have the opportunity to do this on-line?
-
If
you were asked to calculate an approximate value
of your estate in order to minimise Inheritance
Tax liability, would you know what to include,
and what could be excluded?
If
you put the wrong figure or the wrong answer on
a questionnaire in an on-line application form, it could make a total nonsense
of the resulting Will.
Furthermore,
to be legally valid a Will has to have your
signature witnessed by two people (who must
not be beneficiaries). Prime Wills will return with your
completed Will to ensure that this is done - all
part of our duty of care to the client. Do you
get this level of service when you make a Will
on-line or by post?
Everything that you have worked
for during your life is covered by your Will. It makes no sense
whatsoever to risk it all by cutting corners in
a cheap Will,
especially when the difference in price can be
as little as £10 (and some on-line Will writing
companies can actually be more expensive).
A qualified and experienced Will adviser is vital to
the process. It is only through an in-depth discussion
that you can be assured that your Will is appropriate to
all of your individual needs and circumstances, and most
effective in limiting tax liability and unnecessary legal
costs.
